Online Workshop

About the event

Join an online space where you reconnect with your body by starting with breath, getting rid of tensions and coming tobodily awareness. Expect to be facilitated to exercises and frameworks and set free your unique movement improvisations. You’ll then find imageries from your life experiences and express feelings with bodily expression. In the movement improvisation, learn to use the Imagery tool that helps expression, replenishes and heals.

Suitable for all levels of creative experience. You do not need a movement/dance background to join this workshop. In fact, we move in all different sorts of ways and inspire each other because of that. A detailed guide with handy tips to help you fully enjoy this online workshop will be sent to your mailbox prior to the event. So don't worry, we've got your back. There will also be time for discussion at the end of a practice-based session.

The artist/facilitator Qingyang will lead the workshop with unique approaches deriving from her movement and performance practice working with life materials, influenced by Anna Halprin's Life/Art Process and philosophy Dance as a Healing Art among other intercultural movement and physical theatre appraoches. Qingyang draws on her performance-making process with creative healing energy to facilitate a workshop of movement improvisation to help you relax, release, explore and express.

About the artist/facilitator

Qingyang Wang is an interdisciplinary artist, performer, movement practitioner and writer based in London, with experience in the UK and in China. Her current practice features interdisciplinary and intercultural interest, creating a poetic space for personal connections and art as healing. Holding an MA Theatre Practice, University of Exeter, her practice has been influenced by various movement-based and intercultural approaches, including Anna Halprin, Grotowski, Phillip Zarrilli, Laban technique and Chinese Classical dance.  Her recent ongoing solo performance Journey of Whispering Dreams, a blending of poetic text, physical movement, soundscape and Chinese Classical dance, premiered at FUSE International in July 2023, which is a result of a long-term process of material collection, improvisation, movement work and devising. She was recently part of the Seeding Space residency programme at London Performance Studios. She is currently working as a movement director for movement-based artist film The Cloud Messenger (funded by Canada Council for the Arts). Her previous works have received great reception at the likes of Berlinale and Edinburgh Fringe.

For this ONLINE workshop you will need a tiny space to move in, e.g. your room as well as papers and pens (colours if you'd like). Comfortable clothing and a private and quiet space are suggested. You can bring a yoga mat or something to lie on, if you have one but that's not necessary.

*Please note whilst the workshop explores movement and creative tools beneficial for our wellbeing, this is not a psychotherapy session.

Previous editions of this online workshop with Qingyang includes:

Movement Improvisation, Imagery and Self Exploration (December 2023)

A space of self-exploration and self-care was facilitated for each individual participant by using the associated tools and in the end together we came to such a peaceful communal space.

Movement, Self-Exploration and Visual Imagery (October 2023)

At the safe supportive online space provided, participants were guided to relax their bodies, experience somatic explorations and set free to do movement improvisations, interacting with each individual personal materials. Within the group we developed our materials creatively while inspiring each other.

Testimony of this workshop:

‘It’s a wonderful feeling to explore the body through the images and pictures constructed by yourself. Especially when revisiting the images, combined with the space you are in at the moment, you move between some kind of reality and imagination and feel that there are many possibilities.’ – Participant
