About the event

A workshop where we come to nature, get rid of bodily tensions and open up our perception to soothe and replenish by the natural surroundings. Inspired by Life/Art Process from pioneer dancer and movement practitioner Anna Halprin, the facilitator Qingyang will lead the workshop with approaches shared from her movement and performance practice working with autobiographical materials.

We will celebrite how energy from nature plays into movement improvisation, set free ourselves towards healing and embodied creative expression.

We will warm up, receive inspirations from the natural surroundings, explore movement improvisation starting from 'Falling and Rising'. All in a supportive group. Towards taking care of your personal materials and emotions. Relax, release and express through movement.

Suitable for all levels of creative experience. You do not need a movement/dance background to join this workshop. We'll also have a casual chat at the end of a practice-based session.

Please wear comfortable and flexible clothes for you to move in.

This workshop is facilitated by Qingyang Wang, whose recent movement practice has a focus on spontaneity and individual expression. Qingyang has been drawing on autobiographical materials to work with physical movement and poetic text for the past 3 years. Qingyang is an actor, theatre maker and writer, having performed and made works in the UK and in China. Holding an MA Theatre Practice from the University of Exeter, her performance practice has been influenced by various movement-based and intercultural approaches, including those from Anna Halprin, Laban and Philip Zarrilli, as well as Chinese Classical dance. Her recent performance Journey of Whispering Dreams is a blending of poetic text, physical movement, soundscape, Chinese Classical dance and cultural references, which premiered as part of FUSE International on the 2nd July 2023. Natural elements played into and helped with her performance practice for this recent piece, both in terms of the process and the show on stage.

Testimony of a previous workshop facilitated by Qingyang:

‘It’s a wonderful feeling to explore the body through the images and pictures constructed by yourself. Especially when revisiting the images, combined with the space you are in at the moment, you move between some kind of reality and imagination and feel that there are many possibilities.’ – Sabrina
